Hayden Phoenix is coming off of his biggest win in RWD thus far; he was able to overcome a Four Way Dance with Ray Harlan, Kruzer, and the man that he has gone after for the past few weeks... Prince Assad. Not only did he finally get some revenge on the Prince, but he was able to secure the best spot in the RWD Battle Royale in which the winner will go on to face Maxwell Schneider and Frankie Cocheese to become the very first RWD World Champion. Picking up the win in the four-way match was not something that was easy, but walking away the winner was something that Phoenix needed to do. If he is able to get past the other nine participants in the Battle Royale, he will face a competitor that he has yet to face in Schneider, and he will face Cocheese who he faced one in MSW for a loss. Things were looking up for Hayden Phoenix and his focus was now on the upcoming Battle Royale.
[Phoenix was leaning back against a wall in his local training grounds. He had been trained by his mentor, Raymond Brothers, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Phoenix had begun his intense training at Brothers Wrestling Academy followed by working the local Ontario Indy Scene. He held multiple championships, and even had some mainstream success in the United States with a company that Brothers was brought up on years ago. Phoenix was in the right mindset to walk into the Battle Royale with one goal, to win. He knew that he was one win away from fighting for gold in RWD, something he had stated that he wanted to do since day one. Hayden had a towel draped over his right shoulder and was wearing in-ring pants and boots. He obviously has been training as sweat drips from his head, neck, and chest. The gym seems to be empty at this time of night, as the clock above Hayden on the wall reads 3:34AM. Coming off of a physical win in which Hayden had to battle three other opponents, days later he was back at it, training as far as ever]
Phoenix: Before I go ahead and give my thoughts and feelings about my chances to fight for the RWD World Title, I want to address a few things. I want to point out that even as Assad tried to gain the upper hand with sand in an opponents eyes, and the end of the day it was ME getting the 1-2-3.
[Phoenix slaps his hands three time in succession, mimicking the three count of the ref]
Phoenix: It was not something easy to overcome... fighting off essentially three opponents, but I was able to pull through and earn a well-fought win. I want to give a mention to both Harlan and Kruzer for a well wrestled match, and a special mention to Assad... pay close attention Assad...
[Hayden sits up straight, looks directly in the camera, and focuses his eyes as though he is speaking directly and ONLY to Prince Assad]
Phoenix: I won... but this was in a match that involved others. Now we are both taking spots in a Battle Royale... no matter the outcome of this match, don't you think for a second that I am finished with you. Before this whole thing between us ends, YOU and I will fight one-on-one... I offered up a challenge to determine who the REAL MAN is with an Iron Man Match... and I don't remember hearing anything from you about it. We will have the finish to this THING eventually... no matter how long it takes... just remember that I am always aware of what is going on and what you are up to. I 'got involved' in your match with Kruzer, don't think for a minute that I wouldn't hesitate for a minute to get involved again if you ignore me or don't accept what I have challenged up to you.
And that leads me to this upcoming match... the Battle Royale. How does one truly prepare for it? Well the real answers is, you can't. This type of match is not something that you will deal with everyday... hell, you are lucky to take part in a couple of them a year. What I CAN do is train myself, be prepared, be focused, and have the stamina needed to outlast my opponents. Granted, I am coming out as the final participant in this match which gives me an advantage when it comes to stamina... I still need to build up my stamina to make sure that I do not get tired out by my opponents and I can use all of my energy to throw them over the ropes. Only a few of the participants are known, and that in itself makes it hard to gameplan. I need to be ready for anything and anyone, but I have the luck of knowing who is in the match before I make my entrance as I am the last man to make my way into the match.
John Carter-- one man I know in this match very well. Not only did I tag with him in my first match here in RWD, but he accepted my open challenge at From The Ashes and I was able to get the win. He is a great opponent, and I am sure that if he is in the ring at the same time as myself, we can work together to eliminate those around us. It is important to have someone you can trust in matches like a Battle Royale, but don't get me wrong... I know that the most I can trust any one man in this match is within an arm's length. We all have the same goal, and I would not put it past or blame Carter for trying to take me out. Hopefully he knows that we can work together to eliminate others first as that only makes OUR chances better.
Scotty Addams-- I only know so much about Addams. I find him to be a competitor and someone who is a threat to win this match all by himself. Scotty is someone that I need to watch out for because he has had alliances with Drew Stevenson and Frank Washington in the past... and all three of them have been leaders in this industry.
KONSTANTINE-- A fellow Canadian with a mean streak in him. Another person in this match that I need to lookout for. I need to do my own research in terms of reviewing his matches so I know what I am in for.
And I know that Bobby Langford was just announced as the sixth man in this match... that leaves still some room for more big players to get involved. I need to stay on my toes and be ready for whoever it is. A win here could spell great success for me, and get my name mentioned at the top of the RWD Ladder. It is important for me to do what it takes to pull out a win... even if it means working with someone that I would not normally work with. At the end of the day, I know that trust is something that can only be used on a second by second basis as turning on your partner can mean one less man in this match. I will continue to prepare everyday that I can, and I will be sitting back to see what the others bring to the match.
At Combat, I get a chance at achieving another one of my own goals. A chance to further make a name for myself, to prove to those in RWD and abroad that when they signed me, that he did not do it in vein. I will put my body on the line... I will put everything on the line. If I have to break my back to win the title, at least I can say that I gave it my all and achieved greatness doing so. I could sit here and down talk the accomplishments of my opponents, but they had to start out with nothing at one point. Maybe they were more decorated at this point in their career? Maybe they ascended to the heights of this industry in a quicker fashion. No matter, this is my time to ascend and take advantage of the shot that I have in front of me. I am wrestling to prove to myself and those that believed in me, that we all were right. I gave up a lot of my years when I could be going out and enjoying life like a normal college kid, but instead I endured long road trips to make pennies and peanuts. I chose this life of solitude, and if I were given the choice again, I would make the same decision every single time. This is my time to shine, and the RWD World Title is within sight and reach. I said this last week, and I mean it again as every match gets bigger than the last; this match will be the biggest match in my RWD career to date, and it is one that I will make count. Watch out RWD, it is time for THIS Phoenix to rise...
[Hayden stands up, grabs a pair of headphones, and makes his way to another part of the gym to continue his training]
