It was a cold… very cold day in the Midwest as Scotty was back in his home of Chicago with his beautiful wife, Tani Lyons. They weren’t at home, however. They decided that they would head off to the Squared Circle, a wrestling themed restaurant run by Lisa Marie Varon; formerly known as Victoria in the WWE. It was a little hole in the wall place, easy to miss if didn’t know you were looking for it but inside there were multiple televisions with wrestling airing. The restaurant went back a little ways with a bar in the back corner where a couple of guys sat. Some kids across some of the long tables, and some adults enjoying meals too, but it wasn’t too busy. At this moment it was some independent wrestling but Scotty and Tani sat at their table just enjoying a couple of their burgers and some drinks.
It was a cold 2 degrees outside, some snow on the ground but the roads cleared for the most part. This was January in the midwest so naturally the weather was going to be at its worst. So Scotty and Tani sat at the table as they waited for their friend to show up with the camera for him to film his first promo towards Frankie Cocheese. Scotty’s jacket was hung on the back of his chair and he sported his black “Platinum Three Oh Nine” shirt which is an homage to where he comes from in Central Illinois. With that was a pair of black denim jeans and some insulated steel toe boots, a backwards black baseball cap and the JDF dog tags around his neck. Tani was dressed casually as well, just a pair of jeans, a zip up hoodie and her winter coat hanging on the back of her chair and some white Nike tennis shoes. Scotty and Tani’s friend whom was in town to visit with Scotty and Tani for a couple of days had arrived with his camera handy.
He stands at the edge of the table, just back a few steps. Scotty takes a swig of his drink before turning his chair to look to the camera and with the cue from their friend, we begin.
[Scotty]: Three days ago I made my debut in the Revolutionary Division. Ya know when things over in Michigan didn’t work out I sat at home for a couple of weeks and I talked it over here with Tani if I should take some more time off because it wasn’t like I needed the wrestling business to financially support me anymore… but I still love this business and everything that it has to offer-- the good and bad-- and that’s one of the reasons I love this woman to death because she convinced me that wrestling is what I love, it’s what I know and it’s what I’m good at and that I shouldn’t hang it up quite yet because I’ve still got a whole lot ahead of me. So then it comes to me that I have to find a place to continue my craft. I have to find a place where there’s a challenge, where there’s the best talent in the entire business and where there’s an authority figure, management, that knows what the hell they’re doing so when the choice was in front of me there was only one choice to make!
Scotty paused for a moment as he took another swig of his drink with a smile. He was enjoying his day off and spending it with his wife, but he also enjoyed the decision he made and the way he chose to go about doing it. He challenged an old friend and now we’re here.
[Scotty]: The RWD was the only logical choice. So that was step one: contact Travis Rech. Now let me tell you, Travis is a smart man, he’s a businessman! So when I contacted him the deal was already done. So step two: how to make an impact. I could have gone for anybody in the company. When I said I wasn’t going to hold myself back and I was going to take that RWD Championship because I’m the best, well that narrowed it down abit. There’s my old friend, rival, and running buddy, Frank Washington. We all know the history there: Jokers Wild, Uprising, ICWA Championship yada yada yada. But Frank has his hands full with Garland and now KONSTANTINE. Then ya got KONSTANTINE but he’s going to have his hands full with Frank Washington. Then there’s Prince Assad and Maxwell Schneider. Both great opponents but they both have their hands full. So there’s one man… one man I know ALL too well-- Frankie - Cocheese.
Scotty yells out with applause as he’s watching the screen and enjoyed a spot that had just occurred. He finishes off his drink and holds a finger up to say “just a moment” as he swallows. Outside the snow was beginning to come down again. Welcome to Winter in the Midwest.
[Scotty]: So now here we are old friend. The ever-so-dominant Frankie Cocheese leading the Contest of Conquest, next in line to become the first ever RWD Heavyweight Champion. But one man needed to be able to stand across from you, Frankie. One man needed to be able to stand up and stand opposed, to be able to threaten you with competition the likes none of these other wrestlers have had the chance to encounter. BUT now that the formalities are out of the way, old friend, I’d say it’s about time we really get down to business. It’s been a good while since we’ve faced off, Frankie, hasn’t it? But what’s different about the last time is that all it ever takes is a little bit of time for me to grow, to change, to evolve… to evolve into something more, something better, something… stronger. And that is exactly what has happened.
Scotty stood from his seat and began to walk towards the back of the house, more closer to the location that the bar was at, and in front of the kitchen and the camera followed.
[Scotty]: After our last encounter I took another little trip around the world. I stepped up to take on competition the likes I’ve never faced before at that level… much like the position we’re in now, Frankie. For all of my career I’ve taken pride in knowing that I can step between those ropes against an opponent and finding myself able to adapt to them, to take what they have and dish it back ten fold because in case you have not figured it out yet, I don’t give up. I never give up. I traveled the world, and more importantly I became a World Champion; and a damn proud one at that. Then it was time for the RWD. So knowing that right now you’re the only one undefeated, you’re ahead of the rest of the guys in the back and that put you on the map that I've been looking at. That put you on my radar and I knew--I KNEW that you were the one for my return and that’s what is going to make this night a PERFECT night.
Scotty leaned against the wall after getting a budweiser from the bar and took a drink letting out an “Aaah” as if the drink was refreshing.
[Scotty]: Now don’t get me wrong, my friend, I respect you. I respect the hell out of you! You came into the business with a quarter of the time under you that most everybody else, myself included. So there’s never a moment that I can’t take anything away from you, Frankie. You’ve got the tenacity and the will to go further than most anybody will go to do what you gotta do. It’s admirable. But don’t you forget… and hell maybe you never knew but I've been there before and I’m never afraid to rise to the challenge. I welcome the challenge. But I think you’re forgetting one thing: I’m just as hungry and I want this just as much as you do. It’s been a little while since you’ve faced somebody just as hungry as you are, and that’s why this is going to be one of your biggest challenges to date, and this will be one of mine. This won’t just be some good ol’ good sportsmanship match and we both know that. I didn’t come to the RWD for sportsmanship, or just good matches. I came to win. YOU, Frankie, came to win. That’s why you chose this place, isn’t it? See, I’ve come in and I’ve put myself into a position where my back is against the wall. I’ve got myself into a tough position and I know you understand it all too well.
He paused once more and made his way back to Tani and his seat. He pulled it out and sat down getting remotely comfortable again.
[Scotty]: And so here we are, the week is just beginning and on January 18th at the Baton Rouge River Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, both of our backs will be against the wall. We’ll stand across from each other with everything to gain.. but even more to lose. You’ve got the streak, the lead in the tournament and I’ve got everybody behind me, rooting for me to beat the the streak, to dethrone the almighty “Notorious Thug” Frankie Cocheese and make my debut on an impact.. just how I like it. So I’m going to go ahead and enjoy the rest of my time here and then I’ll be in the gym. I’ll be training. Night in and night out. Day after day. There will be no rest for the wicked and when we meet on January 18th… when worlds collide only one will be able to walk out the winner and I’m letting you know right now… it won’t be Cochedder.
Scotty turns, taking another drink of his beer and returns to finishing his dinner while the camera feed fades out to an RWD logo.
