So here's the scoop on Promo of the Week: Currently, I am solely judging the top 3 RPs for the entire period, and will be writing up my reasons why I feel that each piece was a strong one. I have done POTW in the past using member nominations, and while the participation is always strong in the beginning, it very often begins to fade. So this is simply one man's opinions, and should be taken at face value as that. My judging has no impact on the decisions of the Booking Team in determining wins and losses.
Sidenote for this week: SUPER PISSED, I actually deleted this completely when it was nearly done on accident, so the write-ups the 2nd time around aren't quite as detailed as I had them.
#3: Konstantine's 1st RP: therwd.freeforums.net/post/262/thread
This match must have been an absolute bitch to judge, because all of the material put out by those two were fantastic. I initially thought of Konstantine as the generic, personality-less mega-heel, and I was dead-wrong. I got a great kick out of the initial re-write of the Main Event description, in that Konstantine was never mentioned as from Canada. It was a good chuckle. Extremely well worded throughout, and excellent scene setting. The last few lines of dialogue somewhat fell flat, as I was hoping they'd have a bigger impact. However, still an extremely solid piece.
#2: Konstantine's 2nd RP: therwd.freeforums.net/post/331/thread
Starts out with a quick response to Schneider's 2nd promo. This is how a response should be: Short and sweet, not taking up a large portion of the piece. Moving into Konstantine's thoughts, he really humanizes himself for a bit. He shows that at least some part of him (if only a little) cares about how others perceive him and his actions. By placing weight on the stigma of Konstantine's attitude and emphasis of something that is so commonplace in wrestling, he almost becomes likeable... almost. He moves in to a quick bit of comedy with the Terminator reference, and then gets serious. FOR REAL serious. Everything I liked about the first piece is either still holding strong or either improved upon here.
And my #1 piece for the period:
Maxwell Schneider's 2nd RP: therwd.freeforums.net/post/273/thread
To me, it is extremely difficult to convince your readers of the madman gimmick. Schneider does it beautifully here, and it just really sucked me in. It was almost as if you could see his brain go off down the rabbit hole mid-sentence. The dialogue was so very well done in this fashion, to see Schneider be talking about one thing, then completely moving on to something totally different - that was a major selling point for me. As any top RP does, the choice of words used is extremely vivid, in both dialogue and narrative of Schneider's thoughts. This helps to create an extremely solid picture for your reader as to what is going on not just between the characters, but in the entire realm of Schneider's brain as well. An excellent showcase of a madman's personality.
Great show, everyone! Please feel free to comment via the OOC Section here: therwd.freeforums.net/post/438/thread - Agree, Disagree, your own thoughts or even your own top 3! I also welcome other possible ways to do the POTW, so please feel free to participate here.
